The production deals primarily with issues of problem-solving and empathy, as the Rock attempts to make its voice heard in a progress-charged climate driven by the profit-hungry Max - a mall builder set on bulldozing the Rock. As the Rock continues to share its stories and opinions with the children, it encourages them to see this historical landmark as an important piece of Albertan history - one that should be respected, not destroyed. This new respect and understanding for this landmark is impressed upon Max, through which he learns humility, respect and understanding for something he at first did not completely understand. It is through these themes that the production encourages children to ask questions, explore their world, and understand the point of view of others before making important decisions.
