The Amazing Adventure of Clara and Jacques
This production was designed to appeal directly to the Alberta Education Social Studies needs of children from Grades 1-6, in two important ways:
- First, it explores the history of Canada through the method of storytelling - a very prominent technique of issue exploration spanning all grade levels of the Social Studies curriculum.
- Second, it deals with the issues of respect, diversity, cultural tolerance and acceptance - equally important issues that explore the heart of many Social Studies topics. This teaches children about the Earth and its people, so they may journey out into the world and become healthy members of their families, schools and the global community.
Embarking with children on a journey through a new land, this production is designed to enhance a child's knowledge of Canadian history, as well as to increase their empathy and awareness of the people in their own country and the world. The issues that we deal with in our everyday lives are introduced and explored through the two main characters - one from England and the other from France. These issues of tolerance and diversity are especially important in a child's life, as each new experience a young person encounters serves to influence their knowledge and opinion about the world and its people.
The story deals specifically with the issues of tolerance, diversity and respect, as the two protagonists travel across a challenging new land. As they embark on their journey and grow together, they become influenced by the world's opinions, and start to see things differently. Only by finding what is truly at the centre of a person's heart can they hope to overcome their differences and work together to convince the world that we are all human beings first.
